Eating Healthy on a Budget
VIVRS has sponsored and delivered this free program since 2004, to any clients who would benefit from learning effective ways to shop and cook healthy food on a limited income. This is a hands-on program, offered in collaboration with Nanaimo Foodshare, where participants learn about nutrition and health through helping to prepare foods that are shared amongst the group.
The program runs for one morning a week over six weeks. It is both a practical demonstration of effective ways of shopping and cooking healthy food on a limited budget and an exploration of nutrition and the healing qualities of certain foods in treating a variety of ailments.
Shaw Cable produced a short film on the success of this VIVRS' program, which was aired in 2004.
